Israel Hid Discovery Of Muslim Prayer Room In Jerusalem at The Black Iris of Jordan

It would be a little ironic that the more Israeli digs in that area in search of its ancient history, the more Islamic history it will unearth. This is, by the way, the same Mugrabi Bridge that has recently been controversial.

Is al-Maghrib Institute “Jihad U” - FrontPage?

February 18th, 2007

FrontPage magazine.com :: Jihad U by Patrick Poole

From the East Coast through the American Heartland to the West Coast, a rapidly growing and extremely popular Islamic studies program is bringing Wahhabi extremism and Muslim Brotherhood activism into mosques and Muslim student groups throughout North America. The Al-Maghrib Institute features motivational-style speakers, aggressive marketing, savvy use of the Internet and slick multi-media presentations as part of their for-college-credit courses leading to an Islamic Studies degree offered at mosques in at least thirteen cities:

We should complain against such coverage (though we shouldn’t expect any better from something like FrontPageMagazine). While one may not always agree with al-Maghrib Institute (to say the least), they are sincere fellow Muslims who are striving to do the good as best they can.

We should distinguish between disciplined disagreement–even firm–and playing into the agendas of those at enmity to the mainstream Muslim community.

Making PDFs with free software | Free Software Magazine

As demand increases for this format, many are wondering, what tools can be used to create PDFs with free software?

Fortunately, there are a variety of free software that is available to author PDF files. I’ll specifically highlight two packages that are easier to use and require less configuration. While the advantages of the uniform presentation are usually advantageous, I feel that the emphasis should be on the content, not the container.

Zarruq on Permissible and Reprehensible Following (Taqlid)

February 11th, 2007

Someone sent me this, from Imam Ahmad Zarruq’s Principles of Sufism:

Principle 41

Blind conformisn (taqlīd) is the acceptance of a teaching without
regard to the reputation of the teacher or to the methodology of the
teaching. It is absolutely objectionable because the person of blind
conformism is making a mockery of his religion. Emulation (iqtidā’) is
the acceptance of a teaching by taking in to consideration the
religiosity of the teacher and his knowledge. This is the method of the
jurisconsults of the schools of jurisprudence in following the founders
of their schools. Calling emulation “blind conformism” is figurative speech.

Discernment (tabaṣṣur) is the acceptance of a teaching by virtue of its
specific proof without being self-opinionated or disregarding the
teaching at its face value. This is the method of the masters of the
schools of jurisprudence and of the elite among the seekers of
religious knowledge.

Independent judgement (ijtihād) is proposing rules based on proofs
without reference to other authorities; then, if no previous principle
is to be considered as a precedent, the judgement is obsolute;
otherwise, it is limited.

A school of jurisprudence is that which grows stronger in a person’s
soul until he follows it. The general meaning of the above has been
mentioned in Miftāḥ al-Sa’ādah.

SunniPath Answers:
Can the existence of God be proven rationally?
Answered by Faraz Rabbani

Question: Is the existence of Allah and His attributes rationally provable with the mind without doubt - since iman is based on taklif.

Or is Allah’s existence just a guess that we take hoping it is true with a certainty (the Christian concept of “leap of faith.”)

Answer

On Sunday, February 4th, the New York Times published an Article

year, a Sunni student at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor sent a
screed against Ashura to the Muslim Student Association’s e-mail
message list. The document had been taken off SunniPath.com, one of
many Web sites of Islamic teachings that Shiite students said regularly
spread hate disguised as religious scholarship.”

We sent a letter to the New York Times in response. Below is an expanded version of the letter
